A quote from Campbell et.al “The boundaries that once separated teachers and students from resources are virtually gone.” This is both fantastic and problematic. It is indeed a very different age now from when I was a student!
It is great that students now have access to thousands of resources at their fingertips. However, it is now more important than ever to teach them to be critical thinkers when researching. I see far too many students simply go to the first site that pops up in their google search and begin cutting and pasting information. The challenge is to teach them to move past this and I don’t think it is happening enough! Is it a time issue in setting up the research tasks properly or is it a teacher information literacy issue in that many teachers themselves do not receive enough PD when it comes to Resource Based Learning? The boundaries may be down but there are certainly many obstacles in this new territory.
